1. Who we are and what this is
The Source Radar (the “Service”) is run by The Source Radar (“we”, “us”). It gathers journalists' requests for expert sources, from public posts on X and Bluesky, publisher feeds and our own form, and delivers them to members through a dashboard, email and other alerts. Contact: alerts@thesourceradar.com. How we use personal data is in our Privacy Notice, which forms part of these terms.
2. Who can use it
The Service is for professional use by people aged 18 or over. If you sign up for an organisation, you confirm you can bind it to these terms. If you use the Service as a consumer rather than for business, your statutory rights are not affected by anything here.
3. Your account
- Give accurate details and keep them up to date. Use a work email address you control.
- Keep your password and two-factor codes secure. You are responsible for what is done through your account; tell us straight away if you suspect misuse.
- One account is for one person. Team use needs the plan that provides it.
- When you create an account we record that you accepted these terms and which version. If we change them materially we will ask you to accept the new version.
4. Plans, payment and cancelling
- The free plan and paid plans are described, with current prices, on our pricing page. Prices are shown in pounds sterling and include VAT where it applies.
- Paid plans renew automatically each billing period until you cancel. Payment is taken by Stripe; we never see your card number.
- You can cancel at any time from Manage subscription. Access continues until the end of the period you have paid for; we do not refund part-periods, except where the law says otherwise.
- If you are a consumer you have a 14-day right to cancel a new subscription. If you ask us to start the Service within that period, you must pay for what you have used, and you lose the right once we have fully delivered it.
- We may change prices for future periods on at least 30 days' notice, and you can cancel before the change applies. An introductory or launch price applies for the period we state when you subscribe.
- If a payment fails we may suspend paid features until it is settled.
5. Requests from X, Bluesky and other sources
Most of what you see in the Service is not ours. You accept the following about it.
- Where it comes from. Requests are collected from public posts on X and Bluesky, from outlet and publisher feeds, from journalists using our form, and from admins. We show a summary and link back to the original. We do not check that a request is genuine, current, accurate or still open, or that the person posting it is who they say they are.
- No affiliation. The Source Radar is independent. It is not endorsed by, sponsored by or connected with X Corp., Bluesky Social, or any newspaper, broadcaster or journalist. Their names and marks belong to them.
- Their rules apply. Content from X is subject to X's developer and user terms and content from Bluesky to its terms, and those platforms can change what we may collect or show. If they do, parts of the Service may change or stop without notice, and that is not a breach by us.
- What you may do with it. Use requests to decide whether to respond, and respond to the journalist through the contact method they gave. Do not copy, scrape, resell, publish in bulk or build a database or product from requests or from the details of the people who posted them, and do not use them to train or fine-tune an AI model. Do not use them for any purpose other than responding to that request.
- Deleted or withdrawn posts. If a request is deleted, withdrawn, closed or hidden, stop using it. We remove or hide things when asked or when we find out they have gone.
- Our reposts and posts. We may repost or share requests, and publish digests and promotional posts, from our own X and Bluesky accounts. Where a journalist posts through our form and ticks the box to share it, they authorise us to publish the request text and a link to it from those accounts, and can ask us to take it down.
6. Responding to journalists
- Pitch only where you or your client can genuinely help, keep it relevant and concise, and follow any deadline and instructions in the request.
- Contact details in a request are given to be used to reply to that request. You must not add them to a mailing list or use them for unrelated promotion or cold outreach, and you must follow the law on direct marketing (including PECR and UK GDPR).
- Do not send bulk, misleading, automated or repetitive pitches, and do not misrepresent who you or your client are.
- Stop contacting a journalist who asks you to. We may limit or remove pitches or accounts that draw complaints.
7. What you give us
- You keep ownership of what you upload or write (profiles, pitches, notes, photos). You give us a licence to store, process and display it as needed to run the Service, including showing directory listings to journalists where you have chosen to list one.
- You are responsible for it. You confirm you have the right to provide it, that it is accurate and not defamatory, infringing or unlawful, and that you have permission from anyone you describe, including clients, to share their details with us and, if you list them in the directory, with journalists.
- For personal data about other people that you add, you decide why and how it is used and we act on your behalf, using it only to provide the Service in line with these terms. We will sign a data processing agreement if you ask.
- If you post a request through our form, you confirm you are the journalist or commissioning editor it appears to come from, it is a genuine editorial request, and it contains no personal data you are not entitled to publish. Requests are reviewed automatically and may be rejected or removed.
8. Submitting a feed or webhook
If you submit a feed or webhook as a publisher, you confirm you are authorised to do so and permit us to collect, summarise and link to the sourcing requests it carries and to show them to members. We may approve, pause or remove a source at any time, and you can ask us to remove yours.
9. Acceptable use
- Do not break the law, infringe others' rights, or harass, mislead or defraud anyone.
- Do not attempt to get around access limits, share paid access with people outside your plan, probe or attack the Service, or use bots or scripts to collect data from it.
- Do not reverse engineer or copy the Service, or use it to build a competing one.
We may suspend or close accounts that breach these terms, and remove content, with notice where practicable.
10. The Service itself
We work to keep the Service running and requests timely, but it depends on third parties (including X, Bluesky, publishers, email and AI providers). It is provided as available. We do not guarantee that a request will be delivered, matched or delivered on time, that any pitch will be answered or published, or any media coverage. We may change or withdraw features, and will give reasonable notice of changes that materially reduce a paid plan.
11. Our responsibility to you
- Nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or your statutory consumer rights.
- Otherwise, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, revenue, opportunity or goodwill, or for loss caused by content from third parties or by third-party services being unavailable.
- Our total liability to you for anything arising from the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim (or £100 if you are on the free plan).
12. Ending your account
You can close your account at any time. We may suspend or end it if you breach these terms, if we are required to by law or a platform, or if we stop offering the Service (with reasonable notice where we can and a refund of any prepaid period we cannot honour). Clauses that by their nature should continue, including 5, 7, 11 and 14, survive.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. For a material change we will give members at least 30 days' notice by email or in the app, and you can close your account before it applies. Using the Service afterwards, or accepting the updated terms when asked, means you agree to them. The version and date are at the top of this page.
14. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, except that a consumer may also bring a claim in the courts of the part of the UK where they live. If there is a problem, please write to alerts@thesourceradar.com first and we will try to resolve it.
